German cockroaches in Cicero two-flats and apartments

German cockroaches are the small tan roach that turns up in kitchens and bathrooms, and in Cicero they spread through the two-flats, courtyard buildings, and apartments that share walls and plumbing. A pest built for shared buildings

German cockroaches stay close to warmth, food, and water, so they gather behind the refrigerator, under the sink, and inside the stove. In a two-flat or apartment they do not stop at the unit line. Reduce clutter around the kitchen and bathroom, especially cardboard and paper bags, which give roaches harborage. If you rent, tell the building about the problem so the neighboring units can be checked.

Why one unit is never enough

Because the roaches move along the risers and wall voids, a lasting result in a shared building usually needs the connected units and the pipe chases treated together. Gel baits and targeted materials placed in the harborage work far better than fogging open rooms, which scatters the roaches without reaching the nest.
